Aburi Bontanical Garden & Kakum National Park in Ghana

On my recent trip to Ghana, I visited Aburi Bontanical Garden just outside of Accra and Kakum Nationa Park & Rainforest in Cape Coast. At Aburi, I was able to see and learn about various types of exotic trees and plants. Some imported from other countries, some that can be used for medicinal purposes and some just beautiful on the eyes. It was a great learning experience to say the least.
Traveling to Cape Coast usually takes about 2 hours on a good day but our trip took about 3-4 hours because of heavy traffic leaving Accra. Nevertheless, after a few chapters in my book, a nap and a few snacks we finally made it. Also it's always fun traveling through the different towns and seeing the greenery along the way that makes it all worth it. A Kakum we walked through the Rain Forest which was great exercise (out of the breath just thinking about the walk). At the top we walked across the Canopy Walkway. The walkway consisted of 7 bridges all 120ft above the forest floor, with an amazing view. A bit scary at first but once you get the hang of it and most of all get to the end it's a great accomplishment and you can look back and say you did it.

Enjoy the pictures and if you're ever in Ghana these are two places I highly recommend you visit! :)

Aburi Bontanical Garden
"Tree of Life"
This tree is one of the oldest trees in the garden. It started rotting away so in order to preserve it and keep the beauty two men started to carve it (the carving is still in process).  The tree is called the "Tree of Life" because it shows people, young and old climbing on top of each other just to make it. To make it to the top, to make something out of themselves something like every man for themselves. At the top is the king and every one underneath him is holding him up. It's not easy getting to where you want to be but you can get there and once you do don't forget about those who helped you and those that continue to support you while you're there.

Below:
1st Picture - Myself tasting a piece of cinnamon bark from the cinnamon tree.
2nd Picture - All Spice Leaves
3rd Picture - A little passage in the gardens as well as one of the oldest building on the grounds that is still being used. Great foundation.

The view from the Canopy Walkway, 120 feet above the forest floor.

Nothing like some Coconut Water to refresh you along the way.

Cocoa.
The texture of the outside of the cocoa was a little funny but once I got over the texture the taste wasn't so bad. On the inside is the actual raw cocoa that becomes chocolate and other products after it's been processed.
